Suffixes

This little creature is really into adding suffixes onto our names.  It started with calling her father "Papa Bear," and then the rest of us became Mommy Bear, Jillson Bear, Zephie Bear, and Tilly Bear respectively.

After days of answering to Mommy Bear, I then found myself answering to Mommy Pig or Mommy Duck.

Yesterday it was Mommy Giant.

And today, while she was playing, I heard her call out "Mommy Meatball! Come quickly! Maddie Meatball needs you!"

As I am sure you can imagine, this is just the nickname I've always wanted. I mean, what fun-loving gal wouldn't want to answer to Mommy Meatball?

Granted, it's been quite some time since I've had a normal amount of sleep (I'm not complaining--especially about the last 58 hours!) and I'm a pretty easy audience, but that made me do a full-on belly laugh! I aspire to be called "Mommy Meatball" as well :)

Hi Margaret! After reading this blog, I can't resist letting you know that I'm lurking!!!!! I remember very well one afternoon when you were about the age of Jillson we were talking about Maine, and suddenly you labeled yourself "Mini-Quahog"! David (Demaray) picked up on this immediately, and called Nico "Maxi-Quahog". Of course there were "Mommy-Quahog" "Daddy-Quahog", "David- and Jim-Quahog", etc. These names stuck for some time as I recall! I wonder if this trait is genetic??!!!! Love your blogs....

Carolyn! I remember all the Quahog names. I remember sitting at your kitchen table (did you have wallpaper with fruit on it?) and picking Quahog names for everyone. I seem to recall there were Micro- and Macro-Quahog, too, though I don't know who had those names. Maybe Nico remembers! I love these memories, and I am so glad you came out of lurkdom to remind me of them. Certainly it seems the nicknaming trait is genetic. Much love to you!

You are absolutely right on both accounts: fruit wallpaper on the kitchen walls (and yes, that's right where we were all sitting), and right again on the Micro- and Macro- prefixes! Your memory is sharper than mine!!!!!!!!

I also loved your blog with all of the family pictures. I remember so well those little boys (now grown men, of course!) and you around the campus. Such nice memories!

Keep blogging....and love to you all.

So cute! I guarantee you Charlie and Austin would (and have) come up with things far worse than "meatball" (think all "poopy" varieties..). So I'd be pretty happy with "meatball" :-)
